MP Sophie Chatel on vets, trade, and Law 96

Bilingualism, Borders, and Barriers: Pontiac Voices Meet Sophie Chatel

At a 5 à 7 hosted by the Regional Association of West Quebecers on February 27, Pontiac MP Sophie Chatel met with residents to discuss key issues affecting the region’s English-speaking community. Attendees raised concerns about the lack of veterinarians, Law 96, bilingualism, trade barriers, and cell coverage. Chatel advocated for easing restrictions on out-of-province vets, spoke against the divisive nature of Law 96, and emphasized a rights-based, inclusive approach to language. She also addressed interprovincial trade frustrations and outlined plans for improved rural connectivity through government-led satellite infrastructure. The evening concluded with reflections on national unity, election readiness, and the need to defend Canadian sovereignty amid rising global uncertainty.
